Nendoroid vs figma vs Pop Up Parade: Choosing a Japanese Figure Line

Series Comparisons

Three product lines cover most of what new collectors run into first: Nendoroid, figma and Pop Up Parade. They are not tiers of the same thing — they are different formats, and which one suits you depends almost entirely on whether you want to pose a figure or simply stand it up.

The table describes the general characteristics of each line. Individual releases vary, so treat it as the shape of the line rather than a promise about one item.

On the characteristics above: they describe each line in general, drawn from what these lines consistently are. Individual releases break the pattern — some Nendoroids ship with far more parts than others, and some Pop Up Parade pieces come with an extra accessory. The listing for the specific item is the authority.

Pick by what you will do with it

If you are going to re-pose the figure, photograph it, or stage scenes, articulation is the only column that matters and figma is built for it. If you want something cheerful on a desk that you can change the expression of, Nendoroid is the format designed around exactly that. If you simply want the character standing on a shelf and space is finite, Pop Up Parade gives you a clean fixed pose in a smaller footprint than a full scale figure.

Collectors often end up with all three for different characters, which is normal — the lines are complements rather than competitors.

Poseable lines depend on small parts, so completeness is the thing to check: face plates, hands, stands and effect parts are what go missing first. Fixed-pose lines have far less to lose but show handling on the paint instead. We photograph what is actually in the box and list missing parts explicitly rather than describing the line’s standard contents as if they were present.

If what you are weighing up is condition rather than format, our condition and market liquidity guide and the value simulator both work from our own recorded sales, with the sample size shown next to every figure.
