Few franchises bridge generations quite like Pokemon. What began as a pair of Game Boy cartridges in the late 1990s has grown into one of the most recognizable entertainment properties on the planet, spanning video games, an enduring animated series, the Pokemon TCG, and a seemingly endless parade of merchandise. For collectors, the appeal lies in that unique blend of nostalgia and ongoing cultural momentum — the same Pikachu that charmed kids three decades ago is still headlining global events today.
And at the center of it all stands Pikachu, arguably the most instantly recognizable mascot character of the modern era. Whether rendered in plush, vinyl, or printed on event-exclusive goods, Pikachu merchandise occupies a special shelf in nearly every serious Pokemon collection.
The Pokemon Series & This Character
The Pokemon series, created by Satoshi Tajiri and developed by Game Freak under The Pokemon Company, has been running continuously since 1996. Its core loop of catching, training, and battling creatures has proven endlessly adaptable, and Pikachu — the Electric-type mascot chosen early on to represent the brand — has been the face of nearly every major Pokemon initiative since. From the anime’s opening episodes to tournament stages, Pikachu is the character the company reaches for when it wants to signal Pokemon in a single image.
The Pokemon World Championships is the franchise’s flagship competitive event, bringing together top players across the TCG, video game, and other formats. Each year’s championships are hosted in a different city, and the event tends to be commemorated with limited runs of official goods — merchandise that ties a specific Pikachu design or theme to that year’s location and branding. The 2023 edition in the title points to that annual tradition of event-anchored collectibles.
About This Piece
Event-exclusive and collaboration pieces like this one tend to attract a particular kind of collector: those who value context as much as the object itself. A World Championships-tied Pikachu item isn’t just merchandise — it’s a marker of a specific year, a specific venue, and in this case what the title implies is a Bear Walker board sports collaboration, the sort of crossover with a specialty brand that typically appears in limited quantities rather than general retail.
Pieces produced for or around major Pokemon events often see modest initial distribution compared to mainline toy lines, which is part of why they appeal to collectors building themed shelves — championship goods, anniversary items, or regional exclusives. The board sports angle also broadens the audience, drawing interest from skate/board culture collectors in addition to traditional Pokemon fans.

In the Secondhand Market
On the secondhand market, Pokemon items — and Pikachu pieces in particular — tend to enjoy consistently strong global demand, with event-tied and collaboration goods often moving faster than general-release merchandise once they leave their original availability window. Condition, completeness of any original packaging, and clear provenance tend to matter a great deal to buyers of this category, though as always, interest and desirability can shift over time and no specific outcome should be assumed.
